Sell the materials. You do not own the materials or the right to sell them. This license only allows you to facilitate the parties.
Remove the copyright from any of the materials. It’s illegal, don’t do it.
Change the mystery name and/or branding . You can’t, for instance, take our “Murder at The Deadwood Saloon” and rename and brand it to your own bar name. Sorry. As much as we hate to turn away customers, if this is your intention, it’s be better to go with another company that specializes in providing that service with their own mysteries.Additionally, taking “A Deadly Vintage” and renaming it something like, “A Vintage Murder” also violates our copyright and is subject to federal penalties. We’d rather you just pay our license fee and allow us to cross promote each other — let’s work together not against one another! This is part of the legal standards. You are using copyrighted materials. NOM has spent loads of time and talent developing their mysteries and anyone using and changing them is violating their copyright and copyright law.
Since that is regulated by the Feds, penalties start at $150,000 —yikes😬— so just stick to the $225 fee and we all don’t have to worry about those.
You CANNOT run these for non-profit organizations or as fundraisers without paying the business license fee. Again, we are super bummed we had to change this policy, but we found too many people abusing this it and had to stop donating the business fee. That being said, if you are doing a legit fundraiser for your non-profit, contact nom with the details. We have a number of business licenses we can donate/year and we often do with non-profit fundraisers.
No spoilers posted on social media and/or the internet! This includes, but is not limited to, listing vital clues, posting pictures of the victim, announcing the murderer or victim, etc.
