TRAILER PARK TRAGEDY = MURDER MYSTERY PARTY SUCCESS
This murder mystery party was hysterical! As this was our fourth party through Night of Mystery, the majority of our guests were not first timers and went all out with costumes and immersing themselves in their characters. The theme gave great opportunity for awesome costumes and drama, and everyone played it to the fullest.
Outfits were diverse, tacky, funny, and all-around hilarious! We like to give our guests 2-3 weeks notice of their character assignment to give them plenty of time to contemplate and shop for the perfect costume.
Decorating for Trailer Park Tragedy is pretty “low budget” however, that didn’t stop us from investing in the details. Our front porch was decorated with a red solo cup lighted garland, redneck wind chimes, “yell ding-dong” sign on the door, pink flamingos and, yes, a toilet. In the entry, I posted a “who’s who” sign along with all of the envelopes containing character information. Red solo cup lighted garlands, camp chairs and cooler/end table made for great furniture. In one room we ran twinkle lights along with a clothesline with “laundry.” A mug shot backdrop and hand held signage made for fun candid photos. For giveaways we made (balloon) boob job kits and bottle cap rings.
For food and beverages, we served cheeseburger tater tot cups, deviled eggs, meat/cheese skewers, tater tot nachos, Funyuns, “rummy” bears, a Hostess cake tower, Moon Pies, a cooler full of canned beer and soda and Pink Panty Dropper punch in a galvanized pail. A red and white checked tablecloth and empty liquor bottles serving as vases completed the look.
Having a photo booth area is a must have as it gives guests a perfect opportunity to highlight their costumes and characters. Looking through the shots after the party is always good for more laughs!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Night of Mystery makes the process of hosting a murder mystery party simple and thoroughly enjoyable! This is a tradition we will definitely continue, year after year!
Thank you, Gretchen, for sharing the pictures and fun!
