Who’s Who at the Paramount

Bobbie Flynn: Casino Owner. Ronald is the owner of the Paramount Casino. Ronald is a powerful man that you don’t want to betray—the result could be deadly!

Alanna Flynn: Casino Owner’s Wife. A former beauty queen, Iguana now rules the entertainment side of the Paramount. Her time in the lounge has made her knowledgeable about much more than show tunes.

Madison Flynn: Floor Manager. Precious, Ronald’s daughter, is aware that the profits from the casino are dwindling…and they can’t be attributed to gambling losses. Her job may be on the line if she can’t find the thief.

Cole Conway: Booking Manager.
Working in the casino sports book allows Cole to monitor everyone’s sports bets. Cole knows who is truly winning (and losing) at the Paramount.

Jack Black: Blackjack Dealer. Jack is an unpopular employee at the Paramount, but he is trying to change that. He has been spotted in some secured areas of the casino. Could he be the thief or was he tracking one?

Paul Piano: Lounge Singer.
Late nights in the lounge leave Paul singing a lonely tune. Trouble is Paul wants something his bankroll can’t afford.

Elvis: Elvis Impersonator. Elvis can impersonate a lot of personalities, which has gotten him far in life. Even Elvis’ closest confidants don’t even know who he truly is.

Mimi Martini: Cocktail Waitress.
A money-hungry cocktail waitress, Mimi will do anything (and use anyone) to advance herself out of the casino lounge.

Jim Beam: Bartender. Although known to be a ladies man, lately Jim has been out of luck with love.

Lucy Legs: Showgirl. Lucy is a cruise line performer who has dropped anchor in Las Vegas. It is no secret that she wants to be married to Elvis rather than by him to someone else.

Clean Jean: Hotel concierge. As the manager of guest relations, they know more about some of the guests than their significant others do! Will their inside knowledge condemn or save them?

Security Sam: Security Manager. Sam polices who goes into and out of the casino and is ultimately responsible for any thefts the casino may incur. Their job is on the line if someone is not caught for the recent heists.

Senator Justice: US Senator. A senator who spends a lot of time in Las Vegas. He has some ties to convicts, but that doesn’t make him one.

Jacquelyn Justice: Senator’s Wife. Jacquelyn will do anything to save her husband’s career. Some say she cares more about being a senator’s wife more than she cares about the senator.

Ace High: Gambler. Known for his large bets and his big money, whatever lucky lady lands him as her husband will have hit the jackpot. Will Ace’s past come back to haunt him?

Hot-Slot Sal: Gambler. Sal spends their gambling time at the slots and never seems to leave empty-handed. Could the casino losses be attributed to their successes?

Full House Frank: Gambler.
As one of the wealthiest men in Vegas, Frank feels he doesn’t get the respect he deserves. How far will he go to get it?

Hustling Hailey: Gambler.
A hustler at heart, Hailey will do anything for money. Although she has been spending a lot of time in the lounge with Paul, her latest conquer has been gaining Ace High as a husband.

Colleen Candy: Classy Call Girl. Colleen’s clients are plenty and plenty rich. What may be more shocking than who is paying her salary may be who can’t afford the rates she’s charging.

Agent Avery: FBI Agent. Agent Avery is here doing a random check on the casino. If anything goes wrong at the Paramount party, they will be the one to take care of business.

Jamie Journalist: Reporter. Jamie needs to stay a step ahead of the rest if they hope to break the story that is about to happen tonight.

How to Make a Showgirl Costume

Creating a showgirl costume for a murder mystery party can be a fun and creative endeavor. Showgirl costumes are often glamorous, flamboyant, and filled with feathers and sparkles. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you make a showgirl costume:

Materials Needed:

Base Costume: – Start with a leotard, bodysuit, or a fitted corset. Choose a color that suits your style, such as red, black, or gold.

Feathers:  – Purchase feather boas in your chosen color scheme. You can find them in craft stores or online. Consider using ostrich feathers for a luxurious look.

Sequins and Rhinestones:  –  Embellish your costume with sequins and rhinestones. You can sew or glue them onto the leotard or corset to add sparkle.

Tulle or Mesh Fabric:  – Attach layers of tulle or mesh fabric to the bottom of the leotard or corset to create a skirt. This can be either a short skirt or a longer, floor-length option.

Gloves: – Long gloves are a classic showgirl accessory. Opt for satin or lace gloves that reach your elbows or beyond.

Headpiece:  – Create a glamorous headpiece with feathers, sequins, and a headband. You can find pre-made options in craft stores or make your own.

Fishnet Stockings:– Pair your costume with fishnet stockings for an extra touch of glamour.

High-Heeled Shoes:– Choose a pair of high-heeled shoes in a coordinating color. Strappy sandals or classic pumps work well.

Makeup: – Go for bold, dramatic makeup. Consider using false eyelashes, bright red lipstick, and heavy eye makeup.

Accessorize:– Consider adding additional accessories like a feathered fan, a boa, or statement jewelry to enhance your showgirl persona.

Set-Up Your Venue like a Casino.

Set the Mood: Have the noise of ringing bells in the background to simulate a casino.

Vegas Skyline Backdrop: Create a backdrop of the Vegas skyline using wall covers or large printed images.

Convert to a Casino:  Use a scene setter to easily convert your room into a casino. Including slot machines for the walls!

Casino Signage:  Use signs (included in mystery) to highlight the different characters in your mystery – Showgirl sign for Lucy Legs and Lounge sign for Paul Piano.

Themed Decor Items: Large dice, oversized playing cards, money stacks, and faux diamond confetti can be used to decorate tables and spaces around the venue. You can use these items in a lot of different ways to decorate and pull your theme through your whole party!

Cards and Money: String a few decks of playing cards and stacks of play money (purchased at a dollar store) with a clear fishing line. These make great streamers to hang from ceilings! The clear fishing line gives the illusion of them dangling in space.

Poker chip danglers! Create using designs and directions included with the purchase of the mystery. (Pictured)

Card Banner: Using a deck of cards, string with decorative ribbon and hang.

Glue together some “hands” of poker in a fan arrangement (full houses, royal flush, four-of-kind with an ace, etc.) and layout or stand-up on tables as decorations.

Decorative Dice: Get creative with some boxes. Cover them with white paper and add black dots to create large dice!

Large Cards: Use a color copier to enlarge regular playing cards and mount on cardstock to hang on your walls.

Print card symbol templates (included with mystery) onto cardstock, cut out and string on fishing line (clear) or decorative ribbon to make a banner.

Scatter your items throughout your party space, on table tops, as table decorations, on walls, etc. to pull your theme throughout.

Other red and black items that you can use to decorate:

  • Feathers
  • Beads
  • Cards
  • Dice
  • Gambling Chips
  • Flowers (a perfect accent)
  • Candy
  • Sequins or confetti

More Signage: Mark the other areas of your casino with Vegas-y signs as well (included in mystery) – Lounge, Bar, Buffet, etc.

Chapel of Love: Create one for quickie Vegas weddings!

Gambling Tables: Cover tables with black or green felt and use a white paint marker or colored tape to make blackjack, craps, and baccarat lines (or buy premade game layouts).

Create Highlights: Outline game tables, doorways, signs, etc. in white lights (making sure to hide the cords so no one trips on them). Set them in flashing mode.

Music & Sounds: Beyond physical decorations, the ambiance is crucial. Play a mix of classic Vegas tunes, lounge music, or any hits that evoke the energy of Sin City. Consider background sounds of slot machines and casino chatter to set the scene.

Digital Displays: If you have access to screens or projectors, showcase scenes from famous Vegas movies or flashing casino lights.

VIP Rope Stanchions: Set up certain areas to be ‘VIP only’ to give an exclusive feel. It can be a fun way for guests to interact, trying to gain access to the VIP section.

Lounge area: Create one for music and dancing!

Setting The Table

Setting The Table for a Vegas Night

Your table sets the stage for the evening, transforming your space and immersing guests in the theme. For a Vegas-themed mystery, the table should be a blend of glitz, glamour, and a touch of gaming fun.

Tablecloth Palette: Begin with a foundational tablecloth in vibrant hues of green, red, or black to anchor the setting. These colors evoke the key elements of Vegas: card tables, dice, and the allure of night-time entertainment.

Partyware: Opt for plastic or disposable partyware in red and black to maintain the theme while also facilitating easy cleanup.

Craps Table Illusion: Elevate your green tablecloth by using white paint markers to delineate sections, numbers, and words, transforming it into a craps table. This not only serves as a great conversation starter but also enhances the gaming feel.

Card Symbols: Utilize the card symbol prints on colored cardstock (provided in your mystery packet) and sprinkle them across the table for a festive touch.

Iconic Gaming Accessories: Distribute playing cards, dice, and poker chips strategically around the table. Not only does this ramp up the theme, but these elements can also serve as playful interaction points for your guests.

Card-Based Decor: Repurpose playing cards creatively. Wrap them around napkins as unique rings or attach them to wine glasses as charming charms. This blend of functionality and theme can truly elevate the experience.

Feathered Centerpieces: Embrace the opulence of Vegas with tall centerpieces filled with feathers, shimmering sequins, and sparkling beads. These dramatic additions catch the eye and transport guests to the luxurious world of Sin City’s glamorous shows.

Remember, your table is more than just a place for food and drink; it’s a canvas that paints the picture of the evening. With these elements, you’ll create a vivid, memorable backdrop that’s sure to be the talk of the night!

Name your dishes to give them a casino flare. Use adjectives that will go with the theme:

  • Elvis’ Egg Rolls
  • Clams Casino
  • Caesar’s Palace Salad
  • Full House Ham Sammy’s

The options are endless!

Use the menu and food tents (included in mystery) to accentuate the foods that you will be serving.

Lighting

Lighting

Creating the right lighting for a Vegas-themed murder mystery party can set the perfect ambiance and transport your guests to the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip. Here are some lighting ideas to consider:

Neon Lights: Vegas is famous for its neon signs. Incorporate neon lighting or neon sign props to create that classic Vegas look. You can use neon-colored LED strips to line walls, entryways, or even the floor to mimic the neon glow.

Chandeliers: Chandeliers with faux crystals or even real ones can add a touch of elegance to the party. Opt for styles that evoke a sense of luxury and opulence.

Table Centerpiece Lighting: Illuminate your dining and game tables with LED candles, string lights, or small battery-operated LED lights. Place them inside decorative vases filled with fake casino chips or playing cards for a Vegas touch.

Spotlights and Up-lighting: Use spotlights to highlight key areas of your party, such as the entrance, a red carpet, or a stage area. Up-lighting with colored gels can set the mood and create a dynamic atmosphere.

Las Vegas Skyline Projections: Project images of the Las Vegas skyline or famous Vegas landmarks on the walls or ceiling to give the impression of being in the heart of the city.

Playing Cards and Dice Lanterns: Create DIY lanterns using playing cards or oversized dice. Place small LED lights inside to add an extra layer of lighting and a thematic touch.

Faux Casino Table Lighting: If you have casino tables for games, consider adding custom lighting above them. You can use green felt table covers with built-in LED lighting to create an authentic casino atmosphere.

Candlelit Atmosphere: For a more intimate and sophisticated Vegas feel, use real candles or LED candle replicas in elegant holders or candelabras. These can be placed on dining tables and throughout the party space.

Dimmable Lights: Ensure you have the option to adjust the lighting intensity as the evening progresses, allowing you to create different moods for different parts of the murder mystery event.

Disco Balls and Dance Floor Lighting: If you have a dance floor, consider adding a disco ball and colorful dance floor lighting to bring a nightclub vibe to your Vegas party.

Remember to consider the overall atmosphere you want to create, whether it’s a classic and elegant Vegas or a more lively and energetic nightclub-style party. A combination of these lighting ideas can help you achieve the desired effect and make your Vegas-themed murder mystery party an unforgettable experience.

Tips

All of the information regarding how to run your Murder in Sin City party can be found online at Night of Mystery. We highly suggest that you take time to look over our website and download the Murder in Sin City preview file. Upon reading the introduction file of this casino murder mystery game, it will give you a better understanding about how the parties are run and what to expect once you purchase a full mystery file.

If you still have question, the Frequently Asked Questions page at Night of Mystery is a great resource or you can contact us.

Since our games are custom written for the size of the party (ie, we don’t just create a mystery with 8 characters and then keep adding more characters to it), each mystery size is unique unto itself. That being said, going from 10-15 version to 15-20 version, will not only add in more characters, but it will change the storylines of the existing characters, and vice-versa in going from a larger version to a smaller one.

Because of this, WE STRONGLY SUGGEST you get a guest count before formally ordering. You can do so by downloading an invitation, inviting your guests and then purchasing your mystery once you have a more accurate number of people attending. Unfortunately, if you find yourself purchasing the wrong sized party, you will have to purchase another version of the mystery for the size you want unless you are moving from the 15-20 version to the 20+ version.

You can download an invitation here before ordering.

Check out some of these movies or t.v. shows that depict casino life: Casino, Bugsy, Oceans Eleven, Honeymoon in Vegas, 21, The Cooler, and Magic City (series on Starz).
