I hosted A Deadly Vintage party for my birthday last weekend. I have never done a murder mystery before, so I did some research and chose A Deadly Vintage for our party, which was held on Feb. 22, 2025. We had 11 guests total, and I played as a character also. I had my teenage daughter act as the “host” and she helped prepare the materials so I wouldn’t see any details. When the lights went out for the murder, at the end of dinner, she flipped the whole breaker to the house so it went totally dark aside from candles – which took everybody by surprise and even scared a few people until they realized it was part of the game.
I utilized almost all of the extras that were included with the mystery, and added some other components as well – I had so much fun planning and creating the atmosphere for the Annual Vintage Release Party. I decorated with the included signage, as well as some balloon grape bunches, wine glass/cork/candle centerpieces, and grape bunches and vines. I purchased a vineyard tapestry and photo props that we used for pictures. As a last minute addition to the party, I sourced a wine barrel head that I used as a charcuterie board. Using the logo file provided in the materials, I used my vinyl cutter to apply the Deadly Vintage title and date, and had my guests sign it as a keepsake from the night.
Some of the highlights of the party was Bob Bubbly, who was well prepared and started off by toasting to the late Charles Chardonnay and their shared friend Burt Reynolds. Burt’s autographed photo was included at dinner and Bob’s celebrity name dropping continued throughout the evening. The love triangle was also a major theme of the night, while Bob tried to share his affections between Charlotte and Rosie. Bob was unanimously voted as the winner of the Drama Queen award. Pierre was our best dressed guest, and his fake cigarette even emitted smoke. Sadly, his plan for learning French before the party was unsuccessful, but his attempts at a French accent kept everyone laughing. We had a lovely charcuterie spread, catered Italian food, tiramisu and cake for dessert, and many bottles of wine were enjoyed throughout the evening. Guests signed the barrel head and took a small bottle of wine with attached tag as they departed.
I had so much fun hosting this party, and we will definitely do more in the future.
