ringing in 2013 with a murder in sin city

My friends and I, well the girls anyway, had thrown around the idea of a murder mystery party and we finally pulled the trigger. How did it go? If I'm being honest, I have to say I regret...that we didn't do it years ago! So. Much. Fun! Even though our husbands were a little resistant when we told them our New Year's Eve plans, they really got into their characters and had a great time as well. From the costumes to the commentary, it was a huge success. We were laughing the entire night!

-I framed a Paramount Casino sign and hung it on the front door to welcome guests at the casino entrance when they arrived.
-Along the stairs i created a "wall of winners". i displayed posters with pictures of my guests who would be arriving as hustling hailey, full house frank, ace high, and hot slot sal, with the heading Big Winner and captions such as $100,000 jackpot, winner of a 2012 escalade, etc.
-Decorated with oversized cards and dice, our casino was complete with blackjack, roulette, poker, craps, and slots. Sin City was a fun theme because the casino provided entertainment in addition to the "drama" going on around us!
-i collected $5 from each guest. The pot would be divided up by everyone who correctly solved the mystery, or won by the "murderer" if no one guessed that he/she was guilty. In our case, the murderer got off scott free with the entire $90 pot! Not a single guest suspected that he/she was the culprit.
-for the other awards voted on by guests, i printed Big Winner Paramount Casino tags and tied them with ribbon to a variety of alcohol-whiskey, beer & wine for the winners to choose from after being presented with their award certificate. So many of the costumes and performances were over the top it was hard to vote for just one! i think in the future i might have to give awards for top two in each category.

Needless to say, we can't wait for our next murder mystery party! We can't stop talking about this one. If you have never done one and are considering giving it a try, you definitely should. It was very easy to plan, and creates a fun twist for a get together with friends.
