SEPTEMBER 2013 New Years Eve Murder Mystery...

Postby mrmystery » Wed Sep 11, 2013 1:13 pm

We held a Once Upon a Murder party for 2012 New Years Eve.

We had over 40 guests so we used all the provided characters and made up some of our own. Because we announced and started planning the party in early November, we not only sent the Royal Times newsletter (included in the package) out with the invitation, we made up our own 2nd Royal Times and “Hear Ye Hear Ye” that we sent in Mid-December to keep everyone excited about the party. This strategy really worked to get every attendee in full costume and character. We printed all our material in full color and on parchment paper to add to the effect of the times.

Our house was decorated to a tee both inside and out. The front of the house looked like castle walls with a full drawbridge and toy alligators. Inside, the house was unrecognizable. The walls were all covered to look like castle stone walls with crests, swords, and various other decorations. We arranged for all 43 participants to be served dinner in the entry/living room so everyone could interact during the meal. The food was all fairy tale inspired with names like Poison Apple Pie and 3 Little Pigs in a Blanket. A full menu was printed and presented to each diner.

We announced during dinner that there would be prizes and awards given at the end of the evening. During the awards vote counting, we printed out the awards provided in the package with the winners’ names and presented them framed along with a bottle of wine for which we had made personalized labels with a castle and the name of the award. The one who solved the mystery was also presented with 2 tickets to the Midieval Times jousting show in Orange County, CA.

We presented each participant with the script provided in the package or written by us for the added characters. But the unscripted actions by many of the characters really made the party. To have Little Miss Muffett run through the house screaming about the spider she just saw was priceless. Or Alice (In Wonderland) going up to people whispering that she had ‘shrooms for sale kept people in stitches. Also, Gretel stole other characters’ money anytime they walked away from their envelopes. Needless to say, Gretel won the award for most money at the end of the evening. Hamlet (One of the 3 Little Pigs) even came to the party with his own business cards for Oink Realty.

The party went off without a hitch and created so much buzz that everyone is waiting for the next such murder mystery.

With every costume so unbelievable, the photographs of the party have been going viral on social media sites. We were so excited that we can’t wait to host the next great party. Night of Mystery really made for a great and memorable party experience.
