APRIL 2013 Once Upon an Amazing Night...

For my 33rd birthday, we put together a Murder Mystery party using Once Upon a Murder. We had 14 fairy tale characters, all complete in costume and character. We didn't really need the name tags, since everyone was so obviously their role. We eliminated Axe and kept Nosy, since Nosy could be either a male or female and we had the extra female needing the role.

We decorated the front of our house with a large castle entryway, complete with a drawbridge and gate. We placed spray-painted "rock" signs saying, "Beware of the Ogre" around our lawn and placed a rocking horse outside tied to a pole with a sign stating, "Royal Steed Parking". We purchased one forest room scene and adhered it to the siding of our house. Inside, we had room scenes of castle walls. A table greeted the characters as they walked in with a "Once Upon a Time" fairy tale collection and the frog prince. In the bathroom, we had antique keys laid out and the riddle of which fairy tale they were from. We had the table laden with fairy tale inspired foods, such as Snow White's Apple Pie, a bowl of poison apples and a goblet of red wine, "Wolves" in a blanket, Little Red's sweet treats, Hansel and Gretel's find your way home trail mix, and others. We had a throne for the prince that we made from a golden chair cover and dark brown/gold tulle. We had candelabras everywhere. The posters included with the party packet were hung up around the house. We draped deep red velvet cloth all around. A trumpet announced each character as they entered.

We all greeted one another as the character. Since many people didn't know each other, we didn't want people to have to remember two names. The night went off with tons of creativity in the script and objectives given to each character. People built backstories amongst each other that weren't present in the script but enhanced the game so much! There was so much room for playing, it was perfect.

The costumes for this murder mystery were unbelievable, from Snow White to Little Red, Prince Charming to Teeth (the Big Bad Wolf). Everyone facebooked that we must host another one, so we are all itching to create another super fun night. I can't wait to see what other parties we can host! Great job, Night of Mystery... :D
